Shadows. Bodies. Interiors. Exteriors. Illusions. Reality. Such subjects become the perfect canvas, where light dissolves and dreams happen.

I always start a painting from direct observation. Between clarity and blurriness, vision and experience, presence and absence, reflected surfaces like mirrors, windows, and water are often used in my investigation into architectural and psychological spaces. Painting is the main vehicle for me to explore these themes — in which the different layers of paint and texture applied correspond to my emotional response to the subject.

I primarily work from two modes: from the windows in my apartment and my studio and from plein air. In both I explore a painterly quality on the surface. Both embody the involvement of the body through which the painting gradually transforms into an amalgamation of physicality and personal experience.

In the end, compositionally, it is just forms, shapes and colors that are on the surface. Below the surface, however, lies my sensitivity to the world beneath; the realm which evokes mood, emotion and wonder. By building the world in front of me through paint, I aim to create another realm that exists somewhere between representational and abstract, consciousness and unconsciousness, rational and personal.
